The Ndele community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State where three teachers and a youth corps member were kidnapped last Monday, says it does not have the N25million ransom demanded by the kidnappers for the release of the victims.
The community has therefore pleaded that the teachers and corps member be released unconditionally, for the sake of God and humanity.
Kidnappers of three teachers and a youth corps member at Agba-Ndele Community Secondary School in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State has demanded a ransom of N25 million before they would be released.
The teachers, who were whisked away on Monday, October 12, included Joseph Dimkpa, Martina Ofuru, and Charity Mbajike.
A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Obinna Duru, and a security guard, Jonathan Woforu, were also abducted.
The Paramount Ruler of Ndele Community, Eze Godwin Iransi, told newsmen in an interview that the kidnappers made contact through one of his chiefs.
He said, “they (abductors) have been able to call; they called one of my chiefs, and they demanded a ransom of N25million.
“I am pleading that, at least, for the sake of God and for the sake of humanity, release those four persons. Two of them are women and two of them are men. How can you take women to God knows where. They took them through the Sombrero River. Are they keeping them in the creeks? Are they keeping them in the bush? Are they keeping them under what condition? They should please release them,” he appealed.
Also speaking, the Community Development Committee (CDC), Chairman of Agba-Ndele, Mr. Ikechi Chimezie, confirmed that contact has been established with the gunmen, adding that they (the kidnappers) are demanding 25million to free the five persons in their custody.
Chimezie said that the community does not have such money to pay for the release but rather called on the kidnappers to free the teachers unconditionally.
