Controversy still trails the recent redeployment of the Comptroller, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area 1 Command, Rivers State, Mr Kuffi Dan Garba, as he allegedly shunned the transfer and refused to hand over to his successor, Comptroller Azarema Ahmed.
The redeployment was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr Joseph Attah, that the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr John Atte, had approved his redeployment among five others.
But ObinitonREPORTS correspondent gathered that Kuffi Dan Garba is challenging the right of Atte, who acted for two weeks following the exit of the former Comptroller General of NCS, Alhaji Dikko Inde Abdullahi.
It was also learnt that instead of complying with the transfer order, Dan Garba travelled to the Customs headquarters, Abuja, to ensure if he could be retained, as his new posting, Strategic, Research and Policy could be a dumping ground.
Although, the statement stated that the redeployment was part of measures to enhance revenue generation as well as block all possible leakages as Port Harcourt Area 1 Command had not been realizing its targets due to alleged marginalization of the port.
It also stated that the exercise was part of new resolve and strategy to vigorously pursue the 2015 Federal Government revenue budget to please the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Efforts to speak with the embattled Port Harcourt 1 Area Commander of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Kuffi Dan-Garba proved abortive, but when contacted on phone, the Public Relations Officers of the Command, Mr Samuel Harry said he was not aware of the transfer and directed our correspondent to come to Abuja and verify. “But all I know is that he (Garba) is still the controller of the command”.
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had since appointed Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd) as the new Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS), to replace Dikko Inde Abdullahi who retired from the service on August 18, 2015.
