Court Stopped Rivers Assembly From Swearing - In Hon. Victoria Nyeche

After months of succour, another trouble may be brewing in the Rivers state House Assembly following a court order stopping an elected member from being sworn-in into the 8th Assembly.

Justice Adolphus Enebeli of the High Court in Port Harcourt granted an interim injunction to the Rivers state House of Assembly to maintain status-quo on the swearing-in of the lawmaker representing Port Harcourt Constituency one, Victoria Nyeche of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Justice Enebeli gave the order following a case filed by political activist, Livingstone Wechie who accused Victoria Nyeche of impersonation.

The Rivers State House of Assembly today administered oath of office on ten new members elected during the March 19th Rerun Elections. However, the Speaker, Rt Hon Adams Dabotorudima stopped the swearing-in of Hon Victoria Nyeche who was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress to represent the people of Port Harcourt Constituency 1, stating that there is a court order restraining the House from administering to her the oath of office.

Victoria Nyeche while speaking to newsmen after the ceremony expressed shock at the incidence, saying she is not aware of any Court order stopping her from been sworn in. She accused the Rivers state government of been behind plans to stop her from being part of the 8thAssembly. The APC legislator elect said she practically forced her way into the Assembly when she discovered that there was a calculated attempt to stop her from being part of the swearing in ceremony.

Speaking to the press, she expressed dissatisfaction with the development saying: “I feel very saddened by what is playing out in Rivers State today, and it is just a clear indication of the fact that Rivers State is no longer governed by law”

“I have been elected by my people to represent them and I will continue to represent them”

“I was surprised to hear today that that there is a Court Order saying that I should not be sworn in, I have not received a copy of such an order”. She said she will consult with her counsel to know her next line of action
