NURSS DRAWS THE ATTENTION OF GOVERNOR E. N. WIKE TO THE PLIGHT OF RIVERS STATE STUDENTS... REMINDS HIM OF HIS CAMPAIGN PROMISE OF PROMPT PAYMENT OF BURSARY/ SCHOLARSHIP
The attention of the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Barr. E.N. Wike has been drawn to the plight of Rivers state students, reminding him of his campaign promise of prompt payment of bursary and scholarship to students of the state.
The National President of National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), Comrade Vincent Dan -Jumbo in a press release stated that its no longer news that many tertiary institutions in the state as well as the country have reeled out various obnoxious policies in a sheer bid to enforce 100% school fee compliance. Two of such policies includes the UNIPORT'S NO SCHOOL FEE, NO EXAMS POLICY which led to a massive demonstration as well as dealth of students and the RIVCAS POLICY OF 10,000 SURCHARGE after a particular date deadline, which may also lead to an impasse if not managed properly. The list is unending.
Due to the harsh economic reality on ground, most Rivers state students and as well the physically challenged have found it extremely difficult if not impossible to meet up with these policies which has caused untold misery and frustration to the students.
While we commend the landmark achievement of His Excellency, Chief Barr. E.N.Wike, who is a student loving Governor and an ardent lover of education, in less than one year in office, especially in road/infrastructural development.
We wish to remind the governor of the the promise of prompt payment of bursary to Rivers state students during the campaign which gingered the students to overwhelming vote for him.
We therefore appeal for the prompt payment of students bursary as well as provision of local scholarship for Rivers State students especially the physically challenged.
