The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected a new executives to spear-head the affairs of the association for the next one year.
Comrade Chinonso Obasi a graduate of Mechanical Engineering (Production) from Ebonyi State University, born on the 27th April, 1987 in Ugoni Okposi, Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State on Tuesday emerged the new president.
Comrade Taiwo Bamigbade of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, was elected the new Senate president of NANS respectively.
The result was announced after police quelled violence that broke out at Pantami Stadium, Gombe, venue of the 31st NANS convention, which forced participants to scamper for safety.
Comrade Chinonso Obasi and members of the association were received by Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Obasi, said he was happy to witness the event and promised to bring to an end the confusion which had trailed the process leading to his election.
He blamed the confusion on what he described as the desperate attempt by some agents of the “State” to manipulate the process of electing the new leadership of the Association in favour of an anointed candidate of a political party in the country.
“We will work assiduously towards achieving the objectives of the founding fathers of the organization, which is to ensure that the aspirations of Nigerian students are achieved and their interests protected.
”It is certainly a tortuous and demanding path that we have chosen, but we trust that God will grant us the courage to change the things we can, the fortitude to bear those we cannot and the wisdom to differentiate between them,” Obasi said.
