The Inter-ethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, INCRA, expresses grave concern about Gov. Wike's rising desperation to clinch the Vice Presidential slot of his Party, the PDP, ahead of the 2019 general elections.
With the PDP, having zoned its Vice Presidential slot to the South-South and South-East zones, the Governor has made no secret about his desire to bag the slot at all cost. While the Governor's ambitions and aspirations are of no significance to us and as such, undeserving of our attention, we are however, perturbed that the Governor has practically abandoned the cardinal responsibilities of governance in Rivers State and has since immersed himself in grimy political maneuvres to seize the position at the expense of Rivers State, its people and resources.
Lately, the Governor is seen traversing the length and breadth of the country on the State's resources, lobbying and soliciting partnership and support, not for the economic benefit of Rivers State but towards the advancement of his personal ambition and gains while the State suffers gross neglect and absence of prudent management. In the last couple of days, the Governor has travelled to three different States within the South-South; Delta, Akwa-Ibom, and Bayelsa States, in furtherance of his desperation to clinch the Vice Presidential slot.
While the Governor is busy politicking and pursuing his personal interests, the State has recorded massive loses and leadership failure on all fronts and sectors. Since the Wike-led government came on board, Education is now comatose, Agriculture is in dire straits, Health is in its worst decadent state ever, our roads are death traps, security is at its lowest ebb and inherited infrastructures as well as good government programs and policies that hitherto benefited the people have all been abandoned. We are now forced to ask what leadership qualities the Governor intends to showcase to Nigerians at the highest level of leadership in the country which he is aspiring for?
May we be reminded that the governor is barely 30 Months into a tenure that is expected to last for 48 Months and has nothing tangible to show for the huge resources he has controlled within these periods. 2019 is still far and Rivers State is begging for attention and requires intensive care, we therefore, call on the Governor to come back home and concentrate on providing good governance to the people of the State, not forgetting that charity begins at home.
We understand that given the crooked way and manner by which the Governor came to power, there is no moral justification for him to bequeath any good and enduring legacies or embark on projects that should benefit the people, however, having accidentally found himself in such a position, we urge him to perform the duties of his office creditably.
