INCRA Felicitates With Teachers In Rivers State

The Inter-Ethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi(INCRA) heartily felicitates with teachers in Rivers State as they celebrate World Teachers' Day.

As a responsible group, we cannot but identify with these men and women who have chosen the noble profession of transferring knowledge and character-moulding, even as they have shown resilience and diligence in the quest to educate, enlighten and even mould the characters of the people amidst daunting challenges. These men and women who have chosen to nurture and raise not only an enlightened society from the cradle to the age of maturity deserve to be celebrated while they are still alive. Gone are the days when it was said that the rewards of teachers are in heaven. Thank you for raising us for who we are.

We use this auspicious day to thank Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who in his quest, to advance the human capital development of Rivers State, added thirteen thousand and two hundred (13,200) teachers to fill the gaps in the education sector. Recall that the former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi had in 2013 recruited, employed, trained and mobilized 13,200 teachers to different points of needs across the 23 LGAs of the State. It's one feat that even critics of that administration have come to applaud as it has helped to shore up the educational advancement of the people of Rivers State. The Amaechi government paid premium to the interests of teachers by not only paying them their salaries and allowances as and when due but also built, renovated, equipped and furnished the schools to world-class standard. The Amaechi administration promoted an ICT-based teaching and learning culture in all the public schools including those in the rural communities.

We are aware that the current government in Rivers State doesn't have due regards for teachers in the State. In the last two years, it's been one horrendous story or the other ranging from months of unpaid salaries of teachers in Rivers State to the attack on personnel and properties in the school premises. We are aware that the current government has not for once, in the last two years celebrated you. Do not despair for better days are ahead.

As we join the rest of the world to celebrate you, we want to state unequivocally that we understand the challenges that you grapple with on daily basis. We are assuring you that better days, comparable to, even with a view to surpassing what the Amaechi administration developed, are ahead under a progressive government, come 2019.
