OGONI CLEAN UP: Amb. Oji Ngofa Visits Oil-Impacted Community

Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Ambassador Oji Ngofa on Tuesday paid an on-the-spot visit to the oil-impacted Community of Bodo in Ogoniland.

The visit has become necessary judging from the belief that Shell Petroleum Development Company SPDC, the Anglo-Dutch oil giant had recently shown a commitment to the total remediation of oil-impacted terrains, a gesture similar to the UNEP Implementation by the Federal Government of Nigeria, which also have the support of SPDC.

The Ambassador, who himself is from the Ogoni geographical enclave did say on arrival, "this visit is important to me to keep me abreast with the latest development on the clean-up process as it affects Bodo and other impacted communities in our region..., as an emissary to the Kingdom of Netherlands, I recognize the role that country plays in the life of SPDC. The on-the-spot assessment here equips me to effectively address issues should I be called upon, and when the need comes up..."

The Ambassador was conducted around the impacted sites, and a boat cruise also took the entourage to mid-sea to view how far the water bodies have been cleaned.

There were verifiable evidences showing green plants picking up around the once dilapidated mangrove areas.

Works have commenced effectively in Bodo, Ogoni.

On the entourage were Elected Chairman of Khana and Ogoni Rights Activist, AkpoBari Celestine and his host Gokana LGA counterpart, with officials of SPDC and clean-up handlers.
