The Interethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (INCRA) has noted with great dismay the recent public display of administrative recklessness through an unfortunate Press Release from the office of the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Emma Okah. The public should note that until the unfortunate release by Mr. Okah, the incredulous information merely existed in the realm of rumors. It was indeed the pernicious release by the Commissioner that precipitated the social turbulence.
INCRA describes the press statement as irresponsible and reckless; and wonders why a federated unit in a Federal Government will mindlessly feign ignorance on a sensitive matter of national concern that deals with public health and safety; hence, failing in their sacred duty of adequately educating the public on what the issues are. It is also a wonder to the reputable and socially conscious group that the Honorable Commissioner never considered the disastrous effect of such careless outburst in form of a press release on the populace.
For the records, the chaotic statement of Mr. Okah, the Honorable Commissioner, has indeed upset the system and instilled unnecessary panic in the minds of innocent citizens. It is disgraceful that a ministry that should ordinarily manage information in manners; such that is effective enough to prevent public pandemonium and panic, is in the forefront of peddling rumors and supporting same to the point of unsettling the citizens and shutting down academic institutions, businesses and the commercial life of the people.
INCRA fears that the Rivers State educational system may suffer a setback owing to the rise of Didaskaleinophobia amongst the Rivers State pupils and students. Didaskaleinophobia is the fear of going to school; and with children who are yet to achieve a substantial cognitive resonance, such psychological maladjustment may not be farfetched. The Government is expected to be proactive on matters of this nature considering how sensitive they are; but unfortunately, reverse appears to be the case.
Having therefore, noticed the recurrent unprofessional actions of the Commissioner, and in sympathy with Rivers residents who suffered great pains trying to locate the whereabouts of their wards in the midst of the social confusion fired up by Emma Okah, INCRA hereby call for Okah's resignation. The commissioner is given a 7 days ultimatum to resign from office as the commissioner for Information. We also call on the Governor to take note of this ultimatum and immediately issue a sack letter to the commissioner should he refuse to comply. Failure to comply with these demands, INCRA shall mobilize the general public who have been affected by this inglorious action to the streets of Port Harcourt in protest for Okah's resignation.
