The All Progressive Congress in Rivers State have on Monday said it has not zoned its Governorship to any part of the State.
Publicity Secretary of the APC in the State, Mr. Chris Finebone said this in Port Harcourt and call on the general public to disregard the claims by Senator Magnus Abe.
Earlier, a Pro - APC group in Rivers State, the Grand Rivers Alliance, GRA has refuted the clams by Senator Magnus Abe that the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress zoned its Governorship to Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
The group in a communique signed by its Chairman, Hon. Iyk Orji in Port Harcourt said the party has not zoned it Governorship to any senatorial district.
"We agrees with Senator Magnus Abe that the decision being referred to here by the good Senator was indeed taken in 2014 when the leaders of the party had met and agreed to zone the governorship of the state to the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, but we want to state categorically and for the avoidance of doubt, that the decision which Senator Abe has quoted so copiously and with definitive finality, was actually a 2014 decision made by the leaders of the party SPECIFICALLY for the 2015 governorship election."
As a responsible organization, whose main objective is to build the All Progressives Congress, we view that deliberate misinformation of the public by Distinguished Senator Abe with a sense of shock, as it is capable of destabilizing the party.
Senator Magnus Abe, while apparently addressing his supporters; had raised the issue of zoning the governorship in Rivers State and proceeded to give the matter his own personal and obviously biased interpretation of the situation.
He said: "Leaders of this party met sometime in 2014 and the governorship of this state as far as APC is concerned, was zoned to the Rivers South-East Senatorial District. As far as I know and as far as you know, there has been no meeting of the APC where that decision to zone our governorship to the Rivers S/East Senatorial District has been reversed ... And so, as a decision of our party, as far as I know and we know the governorship of this party has been zoned and it is zoned to the Rivers South-East Senatorial District".
Indeed, we wish to recall to Senator Abe, the words of the leader of the Party, His Excellency Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on that occasion. The then Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, had stated categorically that equity, natural justice and fair judgement were the salient criteria used in arriving at the 2014 decision of the party.
We also wish to state here unequivocally and without prejudice to anybody or interests that, just as Senator Magnus Abe rightly observed, that the Rivers State APC is yet to make any zoning pronouncement concerning the 2019 polls and it is our considered position that, any attempts by any individual or group(s) to misrepresent the APC and in so doing impute unfounded and unsubstantiated interpretations, with the intent to mislead the public and party faithful, is unwholesome, unreasonable and provocative for our collective efforts and desire to build our party and position ourselves solidly ahead of the 2019 elections, at all levels.
You recall that Senator Magnus Abe, while apparently addressing his supporters said the party zoned its Governorship to the Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
