The first batch of newly recruited teachers totalling 10,000 would be engaged and posted to their places of primary assignment by the second week of February, 2018; the executive chairman of Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Nasiru Umar has said.
He said this on Thursday while addressing newsmen on the recruitment of teachers in the state and the way forward; saying,having completed oral interview for the over 24,000 shortlisted applicants, data entry is ongoing while data analysis would follow to be completed by the end of this week.
He further explained that a technical committee will do the selection of successful candidates to be vetted by the main committee before the list would be released to the 23 LGAs for posting to the public primary schools in the state. "10,000 of successful candidates will be deployed in the first batch by mid February to start work while the exercise continues,"
Commenting on the posting, he noted that a committee on posting would post the teachers to schools based on needs to cover the subject areas, education secretaries will appoint capable hands as head teachers to manage the schools while competent teacher would be selected and appointed as head of departments and other positions.
“Orientation of the newly recruited teachers will follow immediately at the close of the term while SUBEB monitoring team will continue to visit schools to see how teachers are performing,” he added.
He recalled that the board received 43,806 applications from interested and qualified candidates, conducted examinations for 36,097 applicants in the 23 local government areas of the state.
“The questions were NCE standards and scripts were marked at NTI conference centre by lecturers from federal College of Education Zaria and Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya. Data entries and data analysis were made and we released the names of the shortlisted candidates. Oral interview was conducted by a team made up of education sector support programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN-TDP), Education Data Research and Evaluation in Nigeria (EDOREN), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Teachers Service Board (TSB), Civil Service Commission and seasoned educationists,” he said noting that the interview covered areas including general knowledge, personal trait, reading/writing, comprehension and self expression.
He however reiterated the state government commitment towards ensuring better packages for teachers, saying accommodation would be provided for teachers in the rural areas while motorcycle loan would be given to those working in hard to reach areas to enhance their work.
