The House of Representatives has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris to tender unreserved apology to Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, over the derogatory remarks on the governor by police spokesman, Moshood Jimoh.
Jimoh was reported to have referred to the governor as a "drowning man" while appearing as a guest in a television programme.
But the House said such statement was not only derogatory to a governor but also to the people of Benue State and Nigerians at large.
The House also called for the removal of Moshood from his seat.
Lawmakers took turn to lament the matter, saying the police must leave above board at all times.
