FG Reiterates Commitment To Corps Members Welfare, Safety

The Federal government has reiterated its commitment to the welfare and safety of corps members serving across the country. The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Olusade Adeshola gave the assurance on Monday while addressing corps members shortly after inspecting camp facilities at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Kaiama in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State. As part of its improved welfare measures, Mr Adesola disclosed that all corps members will soon start enjoying a new welfare package as a result of the recently signed Minimum Wage Act by President Muhammadu Buhari. He explained that his Ministry and the NYSC are working with the relevant committees on the new Minimum Wage to actualise the new package. The Perm Sec therefore urged the corps participants to rededicate themselves to the service of their fatherland and humanity. Mr Adesola enjoined them to develop a positive attitude towards scheme, asserting that the NYSC scheme is one of the best things that had happened to Nigeria. In his words "the scheme has enabled many Nigerian youths to acquire the spirit of self-reliance and encouraged them to develop skills for self employment. therefore take all the activities in the orientation course seriously and take active interest in the Skills Acquisition program", he stressed. The Permanent Secretary further cautioned against criminal acts and drug abuse, and charged the corps members to desist from anti-social behaviours which could tarnish the image of the scheme. The State Coordinator, Mrs Ojugo Elizabeth had earlier praised the the corps members for their high level of discipline, noting that they are fully cooperating and participating in all camp activities. She described the camp as a temporary facility, but commended the Bayelsa state government for its commitment to providing a befitting permanent orientation camp and office complex for the scheme.
