Broadband Penetration: Dr Pantami Has Addressed Challenges Of Telecommunication Sector – Prof Danbatta
I commend the Honourable Minister of Communications, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami FNCS, FBCS, FIIM for the swift action he took in addressing the right of way challenge, this has resulted in 35% increase in broadband penetration in Nigeria, the challenge has been in existence since 2015, the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Umar Garba Danbatta has said.
The EVC made this assertion today in his remarks when he led a delegation from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), to a working visit at the Ministry’s Headquarters, Abuja.
The delegation was at the Ministry to officially table challenges facing the telecom sector such as the absence of a digital economy policy in Nigeria, non-adherence to the national economic council’s resolution on the right of way, vandalization of telecom infrastructures, multiple taxations of telecom operators, among others.
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister said, “we are coming up with a digital economy policy, it would be made public before all stakeholders within the coming days, digital economy occupies 16% of the world economy, upon assumption of office, I was surprised to find out Nigeria does not have one”.
Dr Pantami added that” I am working on behalf of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, I have met Mr President on three different occasions to brief him about the progress and challenges facing the sector, I am here to serve Nigeria with a view of leaving a lasting legacy”.
