The ministerial task team on the free flow of traffic across the Federal capital Territory has seized 79 rams from roadside traders along selling close to the popular Dutse Alhaji market in Bwari Area council of the FCT.
The decision to evacuate the rams from the roadside follows seven days of sustained pleading with the sellers by the chairman and members of the ministerial task team which fell on deaf ears.
The evacuation operation was led by the Tpl Kaka Bello of the Abuja environmental protection Board. Upon arrival at the roadside market , Tpl Kaka and his men discovered that the sellers moved the rams into premises of Federal civil service Colleagues located along the outer northern expressway (Kubwa Road).
The team was shock to observe that an illegal mini Abattoir was established within the institute back premises where rams were slaughtered and roasted for Buyers.
Speaking to journalists, the chairman of the FCT ministerial task team on traffic control, Ikharo Attah says the ram traders were insisting that the market has been there for long arguing that they needed much time to move the herds to more appropriate place for business.
He warned that the roadside trading would not be allowed as it not only affect free flow of traffic but also paint the Abuja in bad light.
Attah also warn managers of markets not to allocate car parks to traders for purpose of selling thus forcing buyers to park along the road and cause severe traffic gridlock.
