Justice George Omeriji of the Rivers state High court has restrained the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), from inviting or threatening to arrest the Vice-Chancellor of PAMO University of Medical sciences, Prof. Micheal Diejomoah.
PAMO University is owned by the Former Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili.
THE Judge also awarded a total sum of Seven Hundred Thousand naira (N700,000.00) as cost to be paid by EFCC to the applicant.
The applicant, Diejomoah in a fundamental right suit filed on 6th of May 2020, had asked the court to restrain EFFC for infringing on his right and also threatening him through a phone call by inviting him without an explanation on the invites.
Delivering his judgement, the Presiding Judge Justice George Omereji ruled that the prosecution have proven their case that the applicant had shown that the letter sent to the office of the applicant in Lagos by the respondent with several calls of threat to arrest shows that the EFCC infringe on his right.
He said the infringement was based on the inability of the EFCC to respond to the applicant lawyer after writing to the commission to explained reasons for the invite.
