The Speaker of Niger Delta Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Ifon Daniel Samuel have called on youths of the Niger Delta Region to Embrace Peace and Shun all forms of Violence for Sustainable Youth Development.
The pioneer speaker of the youth organization made the declaration in a press release to mark the 2021 International Youth Day with the THEME; TRANSFORMING FOOD SYSTEMS, YOUTH INNOVATIONS FOR HUMAN AND PLANETARY HEALTH.
As we Commemorate the International Youth Day 2021, a day set aside by the United Nations, for youths to be celebrated globally. Let bear our mind of the challenges in our region we face as youths which cannot be left unattended to on a day like this.
As important as today, let’s not lose our attention to the certain critical issues surrounding the relative growth of young minds and by doing so, the theme for this year's International Youth Day Celebration, has been titled , "Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health". I therefore call on all Niger Delta Youths to rise to the occasion as we retrospect, X-ray where our hero's past got it wrong and as young people we can make delibrate efforts and cross-fertilize ideas in fixing the missing link and Reposition our Dear Region for Greatness.
Ken Saro Wiwa of Blessed memory said in the first paragraph of his last speech before his execution thus"My lord,
We all stand before history. I am a man of peace, of ideas, appalled by the denigrating poverty of my people who live on a richly endowed land" Though we are faced with provocative challenges in the midst of God's given Resources. Embrace Peace and Shun all forms of Violence for Sustainable Youth Development.
The Niger Delta Youth Parliament acknowledges and advocates for inclusive support mechanisms that will ensure youth in the region to continually amplify efforts collectively to restore the planet and protect life which has already been threatened by the myraid of environmental challenges within the region. Transforming Food Systems might be unrealistic if there is no concrete efforts by Government and Stakeholders within the region to provide safe spaces for the Niger Delta Youths to explore.
UN analysis reveals that the world’s population is expected to increase by 2 billion people in the next 30 years, this simply means that the larger volume of healthier food must be priority to ensure human and planetary wellbeing. Food system includes and involves feeding a population: growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, transporting, marketing, consumption, distribution and disposal of food and food-related items; this can only be achievable by total involvement of the Niger Delta Youths in agricultural empowermeng and re-empowerming towards national development.
We therefore employ all Niger Delta Youths to Embrace every opportunities of government (through MNDA, NDDC, STATE GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS e.t.c) in becoming innovative for Human and Planetery Health.
Let me reiterate our commitment to you that the Niger Delta Youth Parliament will be actively there for you as we build a better and greater Niger Delta Region.
