The immediate past Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA and one of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr Dakuku Peterside has praised the smooth conduct of the party's local government congresses across the state on Saturday.
Peterside, who was part of the congress in his home local government area of Opobo/Nkoro, commended party faithful for their maturity and patience in electing their grassroots leaders in a convivial atmosphere.
He stressed further that reports he got from other local government areas across the state were of the same peaceful nature.
Said he: "This is another progress being made by the party in the state. Recall that we had recently elected our ward leaders, who have been subsequently inaugurated and have been discharging their duties.
"The successful conduct of the local government congresses on Saturday signifies another march towards taking over the state in 2023 and offer Rivers people what is responsible governance."
Dr Peterside called on all members of the party to close ranks and build a strong and united front that can dislodge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state
According to him, Rivers people are tired of Governor Nyesom Wike's lack of accountability, non-employment of Rivers youth, lack of provision of seed funds to promote small/medium scale businesses, among others.
"This is the time for all of us to close our ranks as party members under the leadership of Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi, Minister of Transportation and sack the clueless governor in the state.
"Governance is not just about brick and mortar, not about appearing on television everyday, abusing real and imagined enemies, fighting party members; it is about vision and deliberate plan to lift people out of poverty.
"APC has done it before in Rivers and we can do it again. As at today, we have structures in every ward and local government areas and in a few days time, we will elect our leaders at the state level with a mandate to dislodge the PDP.
"I am impressed at the level of enthusiasm being shown by Rivers people towards the APC. We understand that their hopes and aspirations have been dashed by a directionless government but we want to assure them that 2023 will mark a change of government in this state," he stated.
