...Seeks review of Niger Delta development masterplan
The Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof Nelson Brambaifa has sought the cooperation of the Bayelsa state government in order to ensure that the present Niger Delta development master plan is reviewed. He stated this when he paid a visit on Gov Henry Seriake Dickson at Government House, Yenagoa. Leading a delegation of directors and management team of the NDDC comprising the Acting Executive Director Projects, Engr Samuel Adjogbe to Government House, Prof Brambaifa reeled out some of the achievements of the NDDC in Bayelsa state which includes the completion of 405 out of a total of 1043 projects sited in the oil rich state.
He solicited the support of the Bayelsa chief executive to have the Governors Advisory Board constituted in order to synergize the Commission's projects with the aspirations of the various catchment states of the NDDC.
The Acting Managing Director also pleaded with the Governor to assist the commission interphase with the Federal Government in order to get the ₦1.9trillion owed the NDDC by the FG.
Responding to the Acting MD's speech, Gov Seriake Dickson commended Mr. President for appointing a Bayelsan to the high office of MD of the NDDC and noted that Prof Brambaifa was the 2nd Bayelsan to occupy that exalted position. Gov Dickson declared support for the constitution of the Governor's advisory Board for the NDDC and regretted that this important structure that is part of the Act that established the NDDC is yet to take off uptil this moment. Gov Dickson promised to liaise with his colleagues on this issue to help the commission and the oil producing states strengthen the administration of the NDDC. He further reiterated the willingness of the Bayelsa state government to partner with the NDDC to execute what he calls "big ticket projects" and this he said could be done by the meeting of stakeholders, Governors and even communities in order to priotize key projects.
In a related development, the Acting Managing Director, Prof Nelson Brambaifa and his team also visited the Bayelsa state police command where he was received by the state Police Commissioner, CP Uche John Alozie. Prof Brambaifa announced the NDDC's plans not to shirk in its responsibilities of fulfilling the security component of its core mandate as an interventionist agency, promising that the Commission shall construct a befitting police headquarters for the state police command. In his response, CP John Alozie thanked the Acting MD and his team for the laudable vision of providing infrastructure to security agencies in the region.
