Gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have reportedly killed six policemen in Ini local government area of Akwa Ibom state.
The hoodlums also razed the Divisional Police Station at Odoro Ikpe, headquarters of the council area.
According to a report by The Nation, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
The police spokesperson in the state, Odiko MacDon, confirmed the attack.
According to him, six people were killed, but that not all of them were police officers.
He said a wife to one of the officers was among those killed.
“Yes, there was an attack in Ini Divisional Police Headquarters,” Mr MacDon.
“We are trying to assess the situation, we will get back to you,” he added.
