The Rivers East Interest Group, Monday, moved its consultations to Port Harcourt Local Government Area where it met with the PHALGA leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon.Collyns Owhonda at his residence in Port Harcourt.
Recall that the group whose main objective is the actualization of a Rivers East Senator of Etche extraction, has been consulting with some major stakeholders across the eight LGAs that make up the Rivers East Senatorial District to rally support towards the emergence of an Etche Senator.
Stating its mission, the group pointed out that of the three ethnic nationalities that make up the Rivers East Senatorial District, viz; Ikwerre, Wakirike and Etche ethnic nationalities, Etche was the only one yet to produce a Senator in the entire history of the District even though it had always supported other ethnic groups within the Senatorial District all these years since 1999, noting that it would only be fair and equitable to allow for a Senator of Etche descent to represent the Senatorial District in 2023.
The group further clarified that it would not be improper to embark on the mission of advocating for an Etche Senator with out first beaming its searchlight to find a credible, reliable and experienced personality that adequately fits the bill. The group made clear that it was confident in Chief (Barr.) Nnamdi Okere's ability to effectively represent the Senatorial District at the Red Chambers.
In his response, Hon. Collyns Owhonda commended the group over its approach towards the advocacy for an Etche Senator noting that the drive for the actualization of a Rivers East Senator of Etche extraction was equitable and a sentiment he shares with the group. The PHALGA APC leader, however, called for caution and advised the Etche ethnic nationality to come together and work as a united front to actualize this agenda while enjoining all individuals and groups within the Party to remain committed towards the leadership of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Honourable Minister of Transportation.
